Five Places Pool Leads Slip Away

Aaron Gondola, Founder · November 2, 2026 · 4 min read read · written with Claude

Most pool companies I talk to aren't short on people reaching out. The calls, texts and form requests come in. The question is how many of them turn into customers, and how many quietly go somewhere else.

Here are five places to check. You can look at all five this week.

1. The call you couldn't take

You're under a pump, in a backyard with no signal, or driving between stops. The phone rings and you can't answer. A lot of callers don't leave a voicemail. They call the next company.

Check it: look at your missed calls from last week. How many did you call back, and how long after?

2. The urgent message nobody saw

A leak, a pump that stopped, a pool that turned green before a party. These customers want someone today. If the message sits in a shared inbox or on a phone in a truck, they move on fast.

Check it: if a customer texted about a leak right now, who would see it first, and how quickly?

3. The quote that never got a follow-up

You sent a price. They didn't answer. Most people aren't saying no, they're just busy. Without a follow-up, the quote goes cold.

Check it: count the quotes from last month that never got a second message.

4. The review you never asked for

Happy customers rarely leave a review on their own. Someone has to ask, and ask every customer the same way, not just the ones you're sure about.

Check it: how many customers did you ask for a review last month?

5. The one-time job that stayed one-time

A green-pool cleanup or a repair is a chance to earn a weekly customer. If nobody asks once the job is done, it usually ends there.

Check it: how many one-time customers from the last season are now on your weekly route?

What to do with what you find

Most pool companies find at least two of these. None of the fixes needs a bigger ad budget. They need every lead to get an answer, and every answer to get a follow-up.

If you'd like a second pair of eyes on where your leads go after they reach you, that's what a Free Pool Lead Audit is for.
